Fuel Ignition Testing for the Derived Cetane Number of Diesel Fuels

The FIT device uses a constant volume combustion chamber (CVCC) in order to simulate the conditions of the combustion process in an actual diesel engine. The chamber is equipped with sensors that collect data during the ignition and combustion phases. The time from ignition to the start of combustion defines the ignition delay, and subsequently the derived cetane number (DCN) value of the fuel.
